Arhar Daal/ Toor Daal

Ingredients:

  • Toor Daal/ Arhar Daal: 1 cup
  • Onion: 2 (chopped)
  • Tomato: 3(chopped)
  • Mustard seeds: 1 tbsp
  • Curry Leaves/ Kadi Patta: a few
  • Sambhar pwd: 1 tsp
  • Salt: to taste
  • Tamarind or Imli Pulp: 1/4 cup (or as per your taste)
  • Turmeric pwd: 1 tsp
  • Green Chilli: 1(chopped)
  • Oil: 2-3 tbsp
Method:
  1. Wash daal properly.
  2. In Pressure cooker, add  daal, water, salt and turmeric pwd. Take 1 whistle and turn off the gas.
  3. Tadka/ Seasoning:
    • Heat oil in pan. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.
    • Add curry leaves. After a few mins, add onion and green chilli. 
    • Cook till onion turns translucent.
    • Add tomatoes and cook till tomatoes are done.
    • Add sambhar pwd and tamarind pulp. Coo for another 2-3 mins.
    • Turn off the gas.
  4. Add the above seasoning to the pressure cooked daal .
  5. Serve hot with rice or chapati.
