Ingredients:
- Chana daal: 1/2 cup
- Fresh Coconut pieces (chopped/ grated): 1/4 cup
- Ginger: 1 piece (medium) (chopped)
- Salt: to taste
- Green chilli: 1-2 (chopped)
- Oil: 1 tsp
- For seasoning:
- Mustard seeds: 1 tsp
- Curry leaves: a few
- Urad daal: 1/2 tsp
- Oil: 1 tsp
Method:
- Heat oil (1 tsp) in pan. Add mustard seeds. Let them splutter. Add curry leaves.
- Add ginger, green chilli and salt. Cook for 1-2 mins.
- Add chana daal. Cook till it turns light brown colour.
- Turn off the gas and let it cool.
- Grind roasted daal and coconut to form a smooth chutney.
- Seasoning:
- In a pan, heat 1 tsp oil.
- Add mustard seeds. Let them splutter.
- Add urad daal and curry leaves.
- Cook for 3-4 mins.
- Add seasoning to the ground mixture of daal and coconut. Mix well.
- Ready to serve with Appam, Dosa, Idli, Uthapam.
PS:
- The consistency of chana daal chutney is a bit more fluidic.
