I heard about this dish for the first time from my friend Priti Patil.
Ingredients:
- Daal:
- Toor Daal/ Arhar Daal: 1 cup
- Tomato: 3(chopped)
- Mustard seeds: 1 tbsp
- Curry Leaves/ Kadi Patta: a few
- Salt: to taste
- Ginger: 1 tsp (grated)
- Tamarind or Imli Pulp: 1/4 cup (or as per your taste)
- Turmeric pwd: 1 tsp
- Green Chilli: 1(chopped)
- Oil: 2-3 tbsp
- Coriander leaves: a few (chopped)
- Salted Peanuts: 1 tbsp
- Dhokli:
- Gram Flour/ Besan: 1/4 cup
- Wholemeal Flour: 2 tbsp
- Salt: to taste
- Carom seeds/ Ajwain: 1 tsp
- Oil: 1 tbsp
- Coriander pwd: 1/2 tsp
- Red chilli pwd: 1/4 tsp
Method:
- Daal:
- Wash daal properly.
- In Pressure cooker, heat oil. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.
- Add curry leaves. After a few mins, add ginger, green chilli and tomatoes.
- Cook till tomatoes are done.
- Add daal, water, salt and turmeric pwd.
- Take 2-3 whistles and turn off the gas. Add tamarind pulp and peanuts. Mix well.
- Dhokli
- Mix all the above ingredients and prepare dough by mixing with ample water (~1/2 cup). Knead it properly with hands till dough becomes smooth.
- Take little dough and make a small ball. Dust it with flour.
- Roll it on the rolling board with rolling pin to form thin chapati.
- Cut the chapati in square or diamond shaped pieces.
- Put these pieces one by one in daal.
- Cook for 10-15 mins. Stir after every 2-3 mins.
- Garnish with coriander leaves.
