Khichdi



A very light and healthy option. Good for upset stomach as it is easy to digest. Khichdi is a combination of daal(lentil) and rice with some seasoning.
Ingredients:
  • Split green grams ( Daal Moong Chilka): 1/2 cup
  • Rice: 1/4 cup
  • Onion: 1 (chopped)
  • Tomato: 1 (chopped)
  • Ginger:  a small piece(chopped)
  • Peas: 1/4 cup
  • Black salt: 1/4 tsp
  • Black pepper pwd: to taste
  • Salt: to taste
  • Oil/ Ghee: 1-2 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds: 1 tsp
  • Carom seeds: 1/2 tsp

Method:
  1. Mix split green grams and rice. Wash properly and soak them in ample water (~1.5 -2 cup) for 15-20 mins.
  2. Heat oil/ghee in pressre cooker. Add cumin seeds. Let them splutter. Add carom seeds, onion, ginger. Cook on low flame till translucent.
  3. Add tomato, peas, salt, black pepper pwd, black salt. Cook for few mins.
  4. Add (above) soaked rice and green grams and water ( in which they were soaked).
  5. Take 1-2 whistles on high flame and cook on low flame for 15-20 mins.
  6. Ready to serve with curd or lemon pickle.
