Drumstick Sambhar



Ingredients:

  • Toor Daal/ Arhar Daal: 1 cup
  • Vegetables:
    • Drumstick: 1-2 (chopped into pieces about 3 cm long)
    • Ladyfinger: 4-5
    • Brinjal: 1(small sized) (chopped into medium pieces)
    • Onion: 2 (chopped)
    • Tomato: 3(chopped)
  • Mustard seeds: 1 tbsp
  • Curry Leaves/ Kadi Patta: a few
  • Sambhar pwd: 1 tsp
  • Salt: to taste
  • Tamarind or Imli Pulp: 1/4 cup (or as per your taste)
  • Turmeric pwd: 1 tsp
  • Green Chilli: 1(chopped)
  • Oil: 2-3 tbsp
Method:
  1. Wash daal properly.
  2. In Pressure cooker, add  daal, water, salt and turmeric pwd. Cook on low flame for 10 mins (Don't cover the lid).
  3. Now add ladyfinger, brinjal and drumstick to above daal and cover the lid of the pressure cooker. Take 2-3 whistles and turn off the gas.
  4. Tadka/ Seasoning:
    • Heat oil in pan. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.
    • Add curry leaves. After a few mins, add onion and green chilli. 
    • Cook till onion turns translucent.
    • Add tomatoes and cook till tomatoes are done.
    • Add sambhar pwd and tamarind pulp. Coo for another 2-3 mins.
    • Turn off the gas.
  5. Add the above seasoning to the pressure cooked daal .
  6. Serve hot with rice, utpam , idli or dosa.
