Kadala Curry

Kadala Curry is a popular Kerala Cuisine that I learnt from my friend Sangeetha http://sangeetha-girish.blogspot.com/.

Ingredients:

  • Bengal Gram/ Kale chaana: 1 cup (washed and soaked overnight in ample water (~2-3 cups))
  • Onion: 1 (big) (chopped)
  • Tomato: 1 (big) (chopped)
  • Coconut: 1/2 (First peel the brown cover to get white part only and then grate it or chop into pieces)
  • Garlic clove: 1-2 (chopped)
  • Garam masala: 1 tsp
  • Coriander pwd: 1-2 tbsp
  • Red chilli pwd: to taste
  • Curry leaves: a few
  • Black pepper pwd: to taste
  • Salt: to taste
  • Oil: 2-3 tbsp

Method:
  1. Pressure cook bengal grams with salt and water(in which they were soaked). Take 3-4 whistles and cook on sim gas for 1 hour.
  2. Take oil in pan. Add garlic, onions, coriander pwd, red chilli pwd, black pepper pwd and garam masala. Cook till done. Add toamto. Cook till done.
  3. Add coconut. Cook for another 3-4 minutes. Turn off the gas. And let it cool. Grind it to form a fine paste.
  4. Take another pan. Add a little oil. Add curry leaves. After 1 min, add the above paste and boiled bengal grams. Cook for 5-7 minutes.
  5. Serve hot with aapam, dosa, idli, rice or any chapati/ parantha.
